About Slagkraft

Slagkraft is a drum orchestra and literally translated Slagkraft means “Strike-Power” – and with over 100 drummers we certainly have that. We have been playing rhythms from all over the world – from Brazilian street samba to Arabian baladin to American shuffle funk - on the streets of Copenhagen since 2006. It does not matter if you have never played a drum before – anybody and everybody can join in and be a part of Slagkraft at whatever level they are at. Aside from drumming we are a very social orchestra with a strong focus on community – bringing people together across differences in age, culture, race, religion or politics.

Making friends

Being a part of Slagkraft is a perfect opportunity to meet a lot of new people and to make new friends. Being abroad, it is often hard to meet people outside of the school and this is a fun and easy way to get to know a lot of Danes.  There is always a really good vibe at the sessions and people are very open and welcoming to newcomers.

 Being part of Danish culture

Slagkraft participates in a lot of the cultural events on the Copenhagen calendar. Last year we played at the Copenhagen Culture Night festival, The Harbor Festival and the Copenhagen Carnival, where we had the honor of leading the main street parade. Participating in these jobs is always a fantastic experience, and we never fail to get the audience up on their feet. Random audience members are guaranteed to join us to do a samba, some breakdance or whatever they feel like and we all have a big party together! You get to experience Copenhagen and its cultural events in a very special way – bringing a smile to people and putting a spring in their step as you do so!
